• Pumpkins, ghosts and goblins are right around the corner. Here we are a couple of weeks out from 80 degree temperatures and moving into Fall with a vengeance. It is transition time and there are some things that A to Z can assist you with that will make it easier for you to get the most out of your yard in the Spring. To name a few…. Fall lawn care, bulb planting and transplanting.

A reasonable Fall lawn care protocol might include watering, removing weeds from the lawn before they send down deep roots for the Winter, aerating, possibly over seeding dead spots and fertilizing. Aside from the lawn there is more fun to be had!

Bulbs are a low cost and easy way to provide surprise Spring color. Plant now through October. Look for good large, plump, solid bulbs. Plant bulb pointed side up at a depth of 3 times it’s diameter in a good sunny spot (for most) with adequate drainage. For large plantings consider uncovering and prepping the whole area at once instead of digging individual holes.

Fall is a wonderful time to plant and transplant as well. Consider planning your Fall color plantings now. Dogwood leaves offer a wonderful red/purple color and Japanese Maple are also great for Fall color. When it comes to Fall plants, color is not the only consideration. The best kind of fall landscape design incorporates different colors and textures. Be sure to mix different leaf shapes and sizes as well as various shades of red, orange, gold and yellow.
